I would like to welcome you to the new official web site of the Audubon Fire Department. Our site contains valuable information about our department and our community. I hope you take the time to explore the different areas and links.
The Audubon Fire Department has a strength of 50 volunteer fire fighters including 10 explorers ranging in age from fourteen to eighteen. We serve a population of approximately 9,000 in a town of approximately 1.5 square miles.
Our department provides fire suppression, vehicle and water rescue, hazardous materials mitigation, public education and fire safety training.
I am proud to lead this department as we strive to improve the services we provide our community. To accomplish our mission we need your support and understanding of our operations. I hope our new website contributes to to building an even better and stronger partnership between us. There are four basic classes of membership.
1. Active Firefighter: You will be on the front lines performing fire suppression, search and rescue, vehicle rescue, water rescue and hazmat operations.
Requirements: You must be 18 years of age or older, a resident for one year. submit to and pass a background check, pass a medical exam and attend and complete the fire academy becoming a NJ certified firefighter within one year.
2. Fire Police officer: Running into burning buildings not your thing? How about the Audubon Fire Police? Fire police perform many duties including crowd control and traffic control.
Requirements: You must be 18 years of age or older, a resident for one year, submit to and pass a background check and complete and pass Fire Police officer training and become a NJ certified Fire Police officer within one year.
3.Fire Explorer: Want to be a firefighter and your not 18 yet? We've got a place for you. Explorers provide back up to active firefighters. Duties include water supply, raising ladders and assisting firefighters as needed.
Mom and Dad don't worry explorer firefighters don't actually run into harms way. NJ state law prohibits minors from fire suppression duties.

Requirements: Must be a resident for one year, must be at least 14 years old, your parents or guardian must meet with the chief and sign a permission slip, you must maintain a minimum of a C average in school and show your report card to the chief.
4. Contributing Member: None of the above looks like it fits you but you still want to help? This may be for you. A contributing member posses a skill or trade beneficial to the AFD and is willing to contribute their time to help.
Requirements: Must be a resident for one year and pass a background check.
